Fuyu persimmons

For a different take on what’s available this month, view seasonal offerings in farmer’s markets in your area.  The Seasonal Ingredient Map features ten vegetables and fruits at their best in your state in October.

In California, persimmons are available this month. When you roll over “persimmons” you can select the option to read more in the Food Dictionary on the epicurious website. The second option links directly to What to Cook Now: Persimmon and Quince, Recipes and Tips for the Season’s Best Ingredients. Twelve recipes, from salads to desserts, are featured from among 78 choices that use persimmons or quince on epicurious .

If I were still living in Massachusetts, I’d be looking for new recipes for apples.

If I were still living in Kansas, I’d be looking for recipes for winter squash.

If I were still living in Wyoming, I’d be looking for recipes for beets (since first frost may have come mid-September).
