The Best Tangerine of the Season
November 30, 2011
…is the first one.
My Dad at 80 was still planting fruit trees. His last selection was a satsuma tangerine, chosen for a sunny location in his home orchard. We’d had a satsuma years before.
The month he died, November, the little tree bore a tribute crop. I remember the first tangerine from that tree. I want to be planting fruit trees into my 80’s, expectant and engaged.
Gardening is also about remembering.
Satsuma tangerines, or mandarins, if you prefer. Read about the history of satsumas here.
