Small Harvest, Big Plans
October 21, 2013
An unlikely harvest for the latter half of October but ‘Bountiful Blue’ gives us handfuls once or twice a week.
More of the rose scented geranium leaves made a fragrant syrup.
I intended to make rose scented geranium lemonade but my neighbor had no lemons now so a trip to the store today.
Basil season is mostly over in outdoor gardens by now but in my south-facing kitchen window the harvest continues. When at hand, it’s used more frequently.
Some fennel grew under the apricot tree this year–likely a volunteer from plants up the alley or a bird’s gift. As the weather cooled a cup of anise-flavored tea seemed just right.
And of course, the strawberry guava harvest continues. Maybe another ten pounds this past week. They’ll be lots of guava jam to share at Christmas.
And big plans. The winter garden is in. Check back each day this week for details and photos.
Check out Harvest Monday, hosted by Daphne’s Dandelions and see what other gardeners are harvesting. Maybe you’ll find more impressive harvests there.
