Pondering Persimmons

November 4, 2015

Every year about this time I consider planting a persimmon tree. These days I’m buying persimmons for salads, using the ripest ones in smoothies or in my yogurt. A plate of persimmons graces the dining room table.

And after I’ve mentally scouted the yard again I come to the same conclusion: there is no place for a persimmon tree.

This year I was consoled by reading Emily Green’s piece in the LA Times. The Dry Garden: Tips for the best persimmon tree. Maybe you have room for a persimmon tree. Or perhaps you’ll buy a few persimmons at your local farmers’ market.

The salad we enjoy every Thanksgiving–persimmons, pomegranates and green apples.
