Growing Honey Nut Butternut Squash
July 29, 2014
I’m growing ‘Honey Nut’ Baby Butternut Squash from Renee’s Garden, one of my novelty crops in the summer garden. These smaller one pound butternuts grow to about 4-5 inches on powdery mildew resistant vines. With a bit of garden twine they’re making their way up my sweet pea trellis.
The seed packet reports “the plump little squashes start out dark green, then turn a deep orangey-buff color at harvest.” So far, so good.
'Honey Nut’ comes from the Cornell University Institute program developing varieties for small growers.
