The occasion of the first tomatoes is always a happy day and especially so this year. These little gems, larger than they appear here were growing in the alley, surviving only on dew and sprawling about. I think they are Stupice tomatoes which usually do well in my fog belt vegetable garden. 

Meanwhile, in the vegetable garden the tomatoes are green and getting larger on bushes that are four feet high.

The winter garden wanes and I pulled about half of the remaining carrots recently. These are Tricolor Circus Circus from Renee’s Garden Seeds. 

They’re undersized this year because I couldn’t tend the garden for a few weeks when they needed to be thinned. They were a thicket when I was able to get back to the the garden.

My little patio Bearss lime tree is dripping with limes, most about an inch in diameter but a half dozen nearing harvest. More blossoms are coming on. This year’s crop might exceed the previous record of three dozen limes in a season. 

Lucy considers it her duty to bring any drops into the living room. Much preferred to the occasional dead mouse or bird that she brings in for our approval.
