In My San Diego Garden & Kitchen 11-30-15
It’s salad season, in a small way. I gathered a few leaves of ‘Freckles’ lettuce, some French sorrel, arugula and a bit of volunteer ‘Red Frills’ mustard.
But it was enough for a lunch salad with my favorite seasonal fruits–Fuyu persimmons, apples and pomegranate seeds.
We picked several pounds of strawberry guavas over the weekend and most were at least an inch in diameter. This is late for the second surge but I’m pleased. Most of these I’ll eat and give away to a few friends who are equally enchanted by them.
The roses finish with a flourish–here, Julia Child.
There were five roses for the Thanksgiving bouquet including two of the ‘Hot Cocoa’ roses.
