Here’s a recent arugula harvest and clearly it’s no longer baby arugula. But I still like it in salads. 

Have I mentioned recently how easy arugula is to grow, even in a pot, in any season in my SoCal garden? Lettuce is finicky about hot weather but arugula sails through. It’s also quite cold tolerant. You can read more at my post Growing Greens in the SoCal Summer Garden.

When arugula is abundant or getting out of hand I make pesto and freeze it in ice cube trays.

This is how I used the pile of arugula. It was a tangy California winter salad with kumquats, avocado and calendula petals. Lime juice and olive oil to dress.

Before dark last evening, I grabbed some greens to crisp for tonight’s dinner salad.

Some photos are representative of the harvests: Only one strawberry guava which I popped in my mouth right after this shot; the next to the last tangerine and one of a dozen or more oranges picked.
