Most of my garden harvests looked like this over the past week. The purple bush beans finished with a final flurry then the plants promptly died. In their place, I planted ‘lollo rossa’ lettuce, a sure sign the fall-winter garden is coming soon.
The deep red, heavily frilled lettuce looks beautiful growing next to the chocolate cosmos and eggplant.
Another seven pounds of strawberry guavas yielded 7 cups of puree for jam to be made later in the fall.
And a seasonal bouquet as the end of summer draws near.
