In My San Diego Garden and Kitchen 6-27-16
The arugula planted in a 12 inch pot 21 days ago is producing baby arugula. I made two cuttings over the weekend. It’s in a spot that gets morning sun and the pot is at waist height so it’s easy to harvest.
I mixed some lettuce with the arugula and added sliced kumquats, dried cranberries and toasted slivered almonds. The last of my limes provided juice to go with the olive oil to dress the salad.
All my vegetable gardening will be done in containers this summer. We’re replacing our redwood raised beds on which the termites have been feasting. We’ll see how zucchini bred for containers will do. I’ll be posting about the process as we go along.
The blueberry plant in a container just outside the kitchen door faithfully produces blueberries. Here, the Sunday morning harvest destined for
blueberry-topped orange waffles. The orange juice and zest in the waffles and a drizzle of maple syrup made for perfection.
And a bouquet for the church foyer on Sunday.
