In My San Diego Garden and Kitchen 5-2-16
The alpine strawberries are deliciously ripe and sweet now. I’ve let them run about in a small area of my front garden. The little girls next door love them.
The first blueberries are coming on in the patio container. My dog, Lucy nibbled on the “low hanging fruit” last year. I’ll be protecting those.
Here’s a gift basket gathered from the garden for my son, Andy and his wife, Sarah: Tuscan kale, rosemary, Brussels sprouts, celery, broccoli and a naval orange.
There is so much celery in the garden now. I need to cut more and share it before the weather warms.
The purple artichokes began to open toward their thistle flower. They’re gorgeous but the thorns are wicked. I’ll probably move the plant to the front yard as an ornamental.
And glorious ‘Julia Child’ roses.
