In My California Garden and Kitchen 8-3-15
August 3, 2015
The cucumbers and green beans are about an inch long, the peppers are the size of marbles and the eggplant and butternut squash are flowering. The first zinnias in the vegetable garden have opened. There is only the expectation of harvests.
But there are strawberry guavas–probably another six pounds this week.
The prior week’s harvest of guavas, when processed, yielded 7 cups of puree–enough for two batches of strawberry guava jam. Into the freezer with it until the fall when I’ll have more time for jam-making.
The ever-bearing ‘Seascape’ strawberries continue to delight us every day.
And the ever-faithful arugula keeps me in salads.
Here’s my practice bouquet using the vase for my son’s wedding reception. My sister and brother-in-law will help me make about fifteen bouquets from purchased and homegrown flowers.
