Harvesting Garlic

July 2, 2011

Before harvesting my garlic about a month ago, I read the A Way to Garden blog post on the subject. I found it helpful. If you grew garlic over the winter you may too. Check the Peaceful Valley Farm Supply website for more info on harvesting and storing garlic.

My elephant garlic grew nicely as did most of the hard-neck garlic. Fertilizing several times with fish emulsion may explain the good size. I’ll save the largest of each variety to plant the cloves in the late fall. A dozen of the garlic didn’t head up properly but I’ll try cooking with them.

Here’s what planting day looked like in November. See the garlic growing in a post from mid-May.
