Harvest Monday, mid-June in San Diego

June 16, 2013

No large trays of apricots in the kitchen this June. They come in a few at a time. Some are drops from the upper reaches of the tree and they’ve been quickly made into apricot compote. My earlier estimate of two dozen has doubled but still not enough to satisfy. I may buy a lug box of organic apricots from the farmers market.

Here’s some of the apricot compote with Greek yogurt and a handful of the blueberries from our bushes, destined for my lunchbox. The blueberries seem endless even though we pick a dozen or more each morning.

I’m remembering the many apricot desserts last year. We did have an apricot and blueberry cobbler last week, made from the one remaining package of frozen halves. It was stunning with our blueberries (but I didn’t get a picture).

Carrots may get a post of their own tomorrow, but here are baby carrots from Renee’s Garden Tricolor mix.

I harvested the last of the beets and carrots to make room for peppers, eggplant, lettuce and “the insectary,” (flowers). Check back later this week for more about the insectary.

I’ve got more images and thoughts to share, so perhaps they’ll be another post tomorrow on what coming from the garden to my kitchen. Stop by again.

Harvest Monday is hosted by Daphne’s Dandelions. It’s a time to share what you’re harvesting in your garden or how you’re storing or using it.
