Growing Kohlrabi
October 22, 2014
I grew purple kohlrabi for the first time last year. It was one of my novelty crops. I purchased a six-pack last year but decided to grow them from seed this year. I’ll be planting seed in the next week or so.
This is what I’ll be planting. You can find other seed sources for kohlrabi on this seed finder.
They’re stunning in the garden and they’re magenta. Last year they were next to my purple (magenta) cauliflower. (If you follow my blog you’ll know I have a thing for magenta in the vegetable garden).
They mature on the quick side for members of the cabbage family–about 60 days from seed to harvest size of 2-3 inches.
See my post from last year More About Purple Kohlrabi.

Gardening is about experimentation. Maybe it will be your novelty crop this fall (warm winter) or next spring (cold winter).
