This summer I planted arugula and Tuscan Baby Leaf Kale in 12-inch pots. They didn’t fit in the scheme for my raised beds and I’ve grown arugula successfully in a large container several times. 

The first harvest of arugula was thirty days after planting.

The arugula has done well and has been relatively free of pests and disease. Here it is about six weeks after planting. I harvest what I need for a salad or to give away.

The Tuscan Baby Leaf Kale started out well, covered by a very light row cover. Nice micro-greens for salads.

But over the next month cabbage moths showed up under the row cover. I didn’t catch in time with BT to prevent damage from the little worms. There were also whiteflies. I’ve deployed a white fly trap and I’ll probably cut the kale back, douse with liquid fish/seaweed fertilizer and see what happens  

I’ll retry the Tuscan Baby Leaf Kale in the fall, the more favorable time for growing kale here.
