Cauliflower Chronicles

February 8, 2013

image

Cauliflower ‘Self blanching’ planted in mid-October from a six pack. Seeds available from Victory Seeds.

Self Blanching
68 days — A snowball-type with leaves that curl in the cool fall weather and cover the head to keep the white color. Does not require tying until heads are six to eight inches across.

On December 1, growing nicely in the cool fall weather. Minimal cabbage worm damage this year.

By December 27, the central leaves prepare to encase the head of cauliflower that will come.

On January 27, a sideways glimpse of the head with a leaf pulled down.

On the same day, the cauliflower head ensconced. Yes, self blanching.

I’ll try purple cauliflower next year. (Photo credit: Zigzo Links)
