'Blue Jade' Corn

June 1, 2012

And while we’re on the topic of corn…

Corn, Blue Jade OG

Consider ‘Blue Jade’ corn from Seed Saver’s Exchange. Many of us have small urban  gardens where space is limited. 'Blue Jade’ may be the corn to try this year. It’s virtues are summarized in the catalog description:

Miniature plants (up to 3 feet) bear 3-6 ears with sweet steel-blue kernels that turn jade-blue when boiled. One of the only sweet corns that can be grown in containers. 70-80 days. USDA Organic

I like to try something new in the garden each season. For the winter garden this year I grew quinoa, purple sprouting broccoli and 'Easter egg’ radishes. For me, gardening is about experimentation.
