April is the cruelest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.

Lilacs in a Window, Mary Cassatt 1880

A bi-coastal moment… The lilacs bloom this month in the mountains of San Diego County. Lilac Sunday at Arnold Arboretum in Boston is only a month away.

For San Diego readers: Wynola Farms Marketplace in Julian is now selling lilacs from their farm and other local growers. Call first–they’re expecting snow tonight and tomorrow or check the Julian webcam.
