7 Ways to Use Grass Clippings

Some of us in Southern California still have small patches of grass. Since I live a few blocks from the ocean, the fog and cooler temperatures help with the water budget. But the grass does get stressed in the summer. Even our 500 square feet of grass seems like an extravagance in a drought.

We use our grass. Lucy spends warm afternoons on the grass in the cool shade of the citrus trees.

When I’m working about the yard on a warm day, I’ll stop and sprawl out on the grass under a tree to cool off. The photo above was captured at one of those moments. Perhaps it’s a nod to childhood when my sisters and I would lie on the lawn and ponder the clouds and birds overhead.
