Garden Hacks--11

I think we’re at Garden Hacks number 11. Use the search feature in the upper right to check the previous ten Garden Hacks.

Here’s the garden gift my husband made for me this Christmas. I had shown him a similar one available online. He caught the vision, then went to work utilizing scrap wood in the garage. I put it to use recently planting Bright Lights chard and Easter Egg II radishes.

The drilled holes are one inch on center but seeds can be spaced at any desired interval. I made a slight furrow under the seed planting ruler for the chard. The edge of the tool worked perfectly for those seeds planted one-half inch deep.

For the radish seeds I pushed a pencil through the holes to prepare for the seeds. That method worked well too. I also found it helpful to put my gloved finger next to the intended target seed drop so I didn’t lose my place. Seeds in the ground, I covered them with sifted soil and pressed the row with the tool for good seed to soil contact.

To purchase a seed planting ruler, check Amazon or do an internet search for suppliers on garden supply websites, Etsy or ebay.
