In My San Diego Garden and Kitchen
At long last, the third and largest red bell pepper, California Wonder 300 from Territorial Seeds, weighing in at 11 ounces. Three more linger and show hints of red. I planted seeds in early April and transplanted June 4. It’s a long slog and I settled mostly for green bell peppers on the other three plants, now removed. Still, I’d say “worth it” here in the fog belt. This beauty was crisp, sweet and such a lovely red.
The ‘Satsuma’ tangerines are ready. We snack on them, eat for lunch and add to salads. Soon I’ll ship a dozen to our grandsons in Seattle. On a recent FaceTime I heard, “Grandma, you can send us some tangerines?” They loved the passion fruit sent earlier in the fall.
‘Little Gem’ lettuce from the garden was the start of this lunch salad with tangerines and carrots harvested last April. Now begin the favored winter garden salads.
An autumn afternoon in the garden. Light is everything.
You might enjoy my posts from last week if you care to linger. I will likely post two times a week—Monday and Thursday during the holidays. We’re all a little busier and thinking beyond the garden.
Let’s hold the ones we love close and count our blessings as we gather for Thanksgiving.
