Rhythms in the Garden

Rhythms in the Garden

Observant gardeners note seasonal patterns and may be less attentive to planting dates. There are rhythms and signposts in the garden that I’ve observed over the years. Here are a few.

When the dandelions show up in the fall, it’s time to plant the lettuce.

As the artichokes finish, the rhubarb harvest begins.

When the volunteer sweet peas show up, it’s a favorable time to plant sweet peas and peas.

When I harvest the first baby arugula, I’m reminded to plant the next container of arugula.
