In My San Diego Garden and Kitchen

First of the season harvests, like this little mound of ‘Catalina’ spinach inspire special recipes. I shredded this and added at the last minute to a soup.

Other small but first harvests last week include ‘Golden Sweet’ snow peas which I’ve grown from saved seed for fifteen years. I’ve shared my organic seed with San Diego Seed Company and you can purchase it using the link. The blueberry take was small but who’s complaining when it comes in late January? A large container on our sunny patio produces faithfully.

This salad might be my personal favorite for the winter or maybe I just swoon for snow peas and purple cauliflower. It was almost too gorgeous to eat, but I did.

I harvested the last two ‘Graffiti’ cauliflower heads and did a three-way split for neighbors.

The last of the ‘Premium Crop’ broccoli signals the wait for side shoots which usually are plentiful. A second sowing of ‘Easter Egg II’ radishes now is ready for our salads.

‘February Gold’ daffodils show up a little early. Gardeners in the snowy East—your spring and the daffodils will come.

Harvest Monday, hosted by Dave at Our Happy Acres returns February 6.
