The Pleasures of Growing from Seed

It’s seed season. Have you ordered or purchased seeds for the coming growing season? I’ve written about growing from seed frequently over the twelve year life of ediblegardens52 and some 1600 posts. In the next week or two I’ll be doing a reprise of some earlier blog posts about growing from seed.

There is a sense of wonder in growing vegetables and flowers from seed. When I bite into the first ear of corn or eat the first tomato or gather a bouquet of sweet peas I marvel at the miracle of seeds. From something so small and seemingly dead comes abundance and life. It is a profound mystery and a continual joy.

Arugula is very easy to grow from seed and does well in a container. It’s almost a “can’t fail” venture and good for beginners. Seed to harvest is usually thirty days or less. I grow it year-round in my coastal garden.
