In My San Diego Garden and Kitchen
The bell pepper crop exceeded my expectations despite our cool summer. I grew ‘Baby Belle’ peppers from Renee’s Seeds this year and purchased ‘Red Beauty’ for my late season bounty. We eat them raw and I’ve frozen sliced and diced portions for the freezer.
Roasted is my favorite way to enjoy bell peppers.

When we had a cooler day and the energy flex alert ended last week I roasted peppers and the smallest tomatoes.
Some of the roasted veggies went to the freezer and some for a pasta dinner served atop fresh arugula from the garden.
The strawberry guavas are another story to be saved for next week. But I’ve made some great trades recently.
Coming my way in the garden sharing and strawberry guava exchange were avocados, passion fruit, black mission figs, pickled cucamelons and cherries.
Three neighbors with fig trees shared black mission and green figs and with the needed three pounds I made fig jam. For more detail and images of the gorgeous figs and jam see my last post, Garden Sharing—Figs
The green bush beans quit producing this week and the peppers and tomatoes are near that point. The green bean folder goes back to the drawer as I pull the fig file.
Since our church is not meeting indoors because of Covid-19 restrictions I don’t make a bouquet every Sunday. I do make them though for my own pleasure. This bouquet rests on the dining room table and I pass by it dozens of times each day. It cheers me. Then there is the bouquet of zinnias on the kitchen island and another small one somewhere in the house of the day’s rose with a few other flowers tucked in.
