Remembering My Sister

Remembering My Sister

Some days after work,
When the winter evening is cool
I put on shorts—
Like my sister, Barbara.

She lived in Ventura.
We grew up
In San Clemente.
We wear shorts.

Then to stay warm I choose
A long-sleeved T-shirt.
Tonight, I’m wearing a light green one
That belonged to her.

The memories close in.
Tears come.
I miss her,
Even now.

Barbara Stamp Garrison 1952-2006

Barbara grew lovely roses in Ventura. The ‘Hot Cocoa’ rose above was one of her favorites.
