In My San Diego Garden and Kitchen
I traveled to Seattle this past week and admired street-side vegetable gardens and parkway fruit trees in the Ballard neighborhood. Tomatoes are only beginning to ripen as the equinox approaches but apples and pears are nearing harvest.
While I was away, my husband tended the garden here. I arrived back in time to put together a charcuterie board from some of the harvests for a neighborhood party over the weekend.
I roasted cherry tomatoes to pair with mozzarella half moons, basil and crackers. The first bell pepper and the abundant cucumbers added green and crunch. Orange marmalade could top pepper-flecked crackers and lavender lemonade was a new experience for most guests.
When there’s not much in the fridge, there’s always the garden. Well, almost always.
