Loquats in China

We’ve just returned from a fourteen day trip to China and I have some fruit and vegetable photos to share. The loquats in a produce market in Chongqing were luscious. Advised by the CDC website to avoid raw fruits and vegetables in China, I didn’t indulge but was tempted.

Don’t you love the sign? Maybe they meant squeeze, but translations to English frequently added humor to our day. These are much larger than the seed-grown varieties my neighbor grows. An Instagram follower advised me that named varieties have been grafted and produce larger and higher quality fruit.

Check the California Rare Fruit Grower’s website for more info on loquats.

This older woman’s baskets were completely filled with fruit. I can’t guess how much they weighed but she carried them with ease. This region of China is know for growing citrus and other warm weather fruit.
