Brijette Peña collects seed from her certified organic garden. (Nelvin C. Cepeda / U-T)

I visited San Diego Seed Company a few months ago to meet Brijette and give her some yellow, edible-podded snow pea seeds. I’ve grown the variety and saved the seed for over twenty years. That makes the seed very well adapted to our coastal San Diego climate. At the end of each season, I select the best seeds and grow them the next year in my organic garden.

When I contacted Brijette about sharing my snow pea seeds, she invited me to visit her certified organic urban farm here in San Diego. I was able to see firsthand the process from garden trials to seed collection, cleaning, sorting and packaging. Brijette has incredible energy and commitment to providing high quality, locally appropriate seeds. Check out her website for more information about San Diego Seed Company and find a nursery near you to purchase seeds. She also operates a mail order business.
